New varieties of Catenabacterium helminthoides and Fusobacterium vescum isolated from mud-snails.

چکیده
In the suburbs of Seki city in Gifu Prefecture, there occurred . an outbreak of food poisoning of which the causative agent was not yet known. However, the highly incriminated food was a dish of mud-snails (Viviparus histricus Gould). The dish which was served on the table was exhausted and could not be examined, but another samples of mud-snails were gathered from the same rice-field and were examined bacteriologically. As aerobes Fsclaerichia coli and Paracolobactrum having antigenic relationships to Salmonella group were found. As anaerobes Gram-positive long rods and Gram-negative fine rods were isolated. These two strains of anaerobes were studied in detail and were sent together with the descriptive charts to Dr. A. R. Prevot (Institut Pasteur in Paris) and Dr. H. Beerens (Institut Pasteur in Lille). After examining the strains they admitted the author's opinion that they were new varieties of Catenabacterium helminthaides and Fusobacterium vescum respectively. Up to the present time there has been no report of isolation of these anaerobes in Japan.

Phenotypic Plasticity of the Introduced New Zealand Mud Snail, Potamopyrgus antipodarum, Compared to Sympatric Native Snails
Phenotypic plasticity is likely to be important in determining the invasive potential of a species, especially if invasive species show greater plasticity or tolerance compared to sympatric native species. Here in two separate experiments we compare reaction norms in response to two environmental variables of two clones of the New Zealand mud snail, Potamopyrgus antipodarum, isolated from the U...
متن کاملDetection of Ornithobilharzia turkestanikum cercaria (trematoda) by nested-PCR in intermediate host snail, Lymnaea gedrosiana
Trematodes are important in economic and public health. Ornithobilharzia turkestanicum (O. turkestanicum) is one of the important economic trematodes in domestic animals. Ornithobilharzia infection in intermediate host (Lymnaea gedrosiana ) can be detected by either exposing snails to light to induce cercarial shedding or by squeezing them between glass slides to detect parasites. The current...
متن کاملPrerequisites for flying snails: external transport potential of aquatic snails by waterbirds
The widespread distributions of aquatic species often contrast with their limited ability to disperse by their own propulsion among wetlands isolated by land. Studies of the potential role of water birds as dispersal vectors have been focused mainly on internal transport (endozoochory). However, many anecdotal observations that small species adhere to flying birds also exist (ectozoochory). We ...
متن کاملTrematode-induced alterations in shell shape of the mud snail Zeacumantus subcarinatus (Prosobranchia: Batillariidae)
The shell morphology of mud snails, Zeacumantus subcarinatus, both uninfected and infected by trematodes, was compared to determine if di¡erent trematode species induce di¡erent degrees of alteration in host shell shape. Snails harbouring either the echinostomatid Acanthoparyphium sp., or a double infection by the microphallid Maritrema novaezealandensis and an undescribed philophthalmid specie...
متن کاملInvestigation of arsenic removal parameters by a new nano-hybrid adsorbent produced from red mud and fly ash
Two common waste materials, red mud and fly ash, were used to produce a new nano-hybrid adsorbent by heat treatment with alkali addition. The new zeolitic structure formation of the hybrid adsorbent was revealed using the BET surface area, XRD, and SEM analyses. This hybrid adsorbent was utilized to remove arsenic from synthetic and real waste waters by batch and column adsorption experiments. ...
